As we inch closer to the final preseason game, I think I speak for all Browns fans when I say, "Thank God it's almost over!" The anticipation is palpable, but so is the anxiety. After Head Coach Kevin Stefanski stated last week that Deshaun Watson would get the start and see some reps, he backtracked slightly during his recent press conference. Stefanski mentioned that while all starters should be prepared to start, he hasn't made a final decision on whether Watson will play. It's a game-time decision, and that leaves us all in suspense.
The Quarterback Dilemma
Dorian Thompson-Robinson (DTR) made headlines yesterday as reports surfaced that his name has come up in potential trade talks. This move could free up a spot on the roster and trim the crowded quarterback room down to three. Most fans expected Tyler Huntley to be the one on the move, but if you're another team, the smarter target would be DTR due to his age, potential, and the value he could bring in return.
If I were Andrew Berry, the only way I'd consider trading DTR is if we could get a player who can contribute this year—preferably an offensive lineman. Fans and radio hosts have floated the possibility of Jameis Winston being a name that could be involved in trade talks. Winston would likely bring the best return in terms of a quarterback trade, given his ability to step in and start if needed. However, I highly doubt the Browns would consider trading him, especially after last season's QB struggles. Berry and the front office have learned their lesson, which is why we're even having this debate about who should stay and who should go.
Wide Receiver Battles
The final wide receiver spot is something I’m still intrigued by. Someone fans like is inevitably going to miss the cut unless the Browns decide to keep more than six wide receivers on the roster, which seems unlikely.
Rookie Jamari Thrash has shown flashes during training camp and preseason, while James Proche seems likely to make the team as a returner. David Bell has proven to be a reliable receiver on big third and fourth downs, and Michael Woods has been on the team for a few years despite injuries and a six-game suspension. Clearly, there’s something Berry and the front office see in him. So, who will be the odd man out?
